Kansuke Yamato is a police officer from Nagano Prefecture with a prominent pair of crisscrossed scars over his blinded left eye and an injured left leg due to an avalanche accident which he sustained from chasing a criminal. His name is based on the strategist Yamamoto Kansuke. Kansuke is also a childhood friend of Yui Euhara as well as her superior in the Nagano police.
