I know you saw the rating and are probably wondering why a sane person would even bother writing a review about a manga with a rating that low. I dont know how the rating came to be 69 but I honestly think it should be a lot more than that. Perhaps it reached the wrong audience who were expecting some full blown story to be told within a volume. If thats what you wanted then look elsewhere. Oneshot Romance as the name suggests consists of 6 one shots bundled into one volume. Each of the six chapters that the manga contains have their own little journeys packed into them. Reading it for the first time I wasnt expecting much from a shoujo one shot after all even with all the cliches and tropes that fill the genre many shoujo manga series try to add too much drama into the mix or some kind of obstacle which prevents the characters from communicating to each other honestly like up until the very last arc or something. This isnt just an issue of shoujo romcoms of course but its extremely common in the genre and thats why I loved how the characters in the manga did their best to be honest with each other even if it wasnt obviously some well planned declaration or confession. Just those little things can help make a story more enjoyable to read and also help avoid unnecessary drama. Now a bit about each one shot...Its not as if its got no cliches to it but its executed in a manner that more than makes up for it. Also I actually read it from the final chapter onwards and I kind of enjoyed reading it that way since the first chapter is probably one of the best in my opinion anyway and having that be the closing chapter feels kinda nice. Not every story actually ends in the characters dating which also gives it a more realistic feel. Its rare to see a one shot about high school life handled so maturely. Theres bittersweet moments wholesome moments slightly embarrassing ones and its crazy to think this is actually just a one shot. I genuinely wish some of these stories had more chapters given to them. Chapter 6: Her ExBoyfriend An interesting chapter to say the least and reading it instantly pulled me into the manga. Its hard to talk about it without getting into spoiler territory but it was a nice portrayal of someone who gives up on everything too easily in order to make others happy and also not be hurt themselves. It was a good chapter... 7.5/10 Chapter 5: Lets Go Home Together The main character is sociable pretty and well liked the boy is handsome but is somewhat gloomy and blunt. Its crazy how many shoujo mangas have this trope and can still manage to make it different. This one wasnt my favourite but it was still good and I liked how they ended it without rushing things. 7/10 Chapter 4: Extras Attention What do I even say about this one? It was a bit strange at first the whole concept of having an oshi or being a fan of a person in your own social circle seemed very strange at first. But it was quite funny done well and wholesome which I enjoyed. 8.5/10 Chapter 3: Your Heart One of my favourites in the collection it was just a very enjoyable reading. Its the only chapter told from a guys pov and that might be part of the reason why it felt so relatable but just the way Ryuji felt throughout the story seemed very genuine to me. It happens all the time to us guys we wonder whether this girl is actually attracted towards us or if were just getting ahead of ourselves. Its very perplexing. I dont wanna spoil anything more so Ill leave it at that. 9/10 Chapter 2: On Your Marks A chapter about two stars of the track and field club. The authors really tried to cover every generic romantic situation in this volume and yet i did not dislike this chapter one bit. The playful banter the emotions that coloured each grayscale panel the bitter feeling of running away from loss made it well worth the read. 8.5/10 Chapter 1: Press The Shutter Of Your Eyes The final chapter and technically the first chapter of the collection it tells us the story of two people. Who met. Who in the short span of youth made memories lived their best lives. Ok maybe not that deep for a oneshot but it was nice. Probably could give a better review than that but if youve read this far then you shouldve either already read it or youre curious at least in which case Id say you really should check it out. 8.5/10 220https://i.ur.com/OLRb4By.jpeg The panels are beautifully drawn as well so no complaints there. To conclude its definitely worth checking out especially if you like shoujo or romance mangas in general. Thats all from me :
