I cant stop thinking about how much I love this manga. Its not just because I liked it its because I absolutely loved it. I loved everything I sawthe characters the fights the atmosphereboth the Kengan and the Ashura. Kengan Ashura is more than just a manga about a tournament. It is without a doubt the best tournament of all. The story revolves around Kazuo Yamashita an employee tired of his mundane life. Things arent going well for him at home or at work. His life takes a 180degree turn when he meets someone completely opposite to him: Tokita Ohma a man who lives for fighting and has done nothing else his entire life. Ohma ends up joining the Kengan Annihilation Tournament as Yamashitas fighter. Throughout the story the two complement each other growing and evolving as individuals. Yamashita had many talents but he never had the courage to take control of his life instead he just went with the flow and grew old. On the other hand Ohma has been fighting all his life which led him to make rash decisions that eventually caught up with him. At the beginning of the story Ohma is a hotheaded person who easily loses his temper but near the end he appears more composed and relaxed. The tournament structure is simply perfectfrom how fighters enter to every single stage. The first phase allows you to see all the fighters and choose your favorites. The second phase ramps up the hype and from the third phase onwardwow. From that point there isnt a single fight that wont make you jump out of your seat in excitement. Each and every character is iconic due to the screen time theyre given. You can understand why people fear but admire The Fang. You can feel the overwhelming presence of Kuroki the terrifying grip of Cosmo the ruthless nature of Muteba and Hatsumis untouchable aura the same with the others. Every one of them has something rare: essence. You never know who will win or lose a fight all you can do is sit back and root for your favorite as if you were in the tournament yourself. Kengan Ashura draws you in with its excellent cast and outstanding battles yet it never neglects to give its characters room to evolve and grow as individuals. Its a story that despite appearances is deeply motivational: never give up and never stop moving forward. That way even if you fail you will have won. Its an incredibly immersive story and without a doubt one of the best experiences Ive ever had.
