There is no such thing as an objective review. Interpretations and opinions of all forms of art and expression are subjective. One of the greatest joys of childhood is discovering what you like to doLearning new things finding new hobbies developing a talent. If a child likes to draw someone might say You should be an artist when you grow up. A child who has a gift for music will probably be told You could be a professional musician or performer. Turn your hobby into your passion. Turn your passion into your job. Kiki whose only skill is flying fearlessly leaves home and the comforts of childhood behind in search of stranger shores. Journeying to a new city she decides to use her talent to establish her own delivery service. But in every worthwhile journey there will always be obstacles: Making enough money to support yourself learning how to deal with people and overworking. The exhaustion of routine slowly corrodes the thrill of living your dreams. Happiness gives way to fatigue. Soon your passion turns into a chore. You cant find joy in the thing you once loved. What happens then? Kikis Delivery Service sweeps the audience into its world that brims with charm and quiet optimism. But beneath its simple story and innocent exterior it tells a deceptively nuanced story about work and worth. Kikis kind and selfless nature lends itself to a delivery service excellently. After all whats better than seeing a someones excitement upon receiving a long awaited parcel or a birthday present? Making someone happy can be its own reward and its fun watching Kiki work hard and brighten someones day. Inevitably no matter how big or small the task not every person will appreciate a workers efforts. No one wants a door slammed in their face and no one wants an ungrateful response to their endeavors. When a single customer rewards Kiki with both shes shaken. Even worse the time and effort she put into something that went unappreciated means she ended up disappointing someone else. For the first time she faces the consequences of spreading herself too thinly. Overexertion leads to exhaustion. Exhaustion leads to illness. Illness means you cant work. Have you disappointed even more people by being unable to do your job? Or are you more disappointed in yourself for failing? One of the hardest things to learn is your limits. Kiki may be a witch but shes still human just like the rest of us. We can only push ourselves so far and can only give so much of ourselves before we burn out and have nothing left to give. Although Kikis parents arent at her side there are still adults to help guide her. With gentility and empathy they assure her its okay to take a break fall out of love with something and step away from it. Turning a passion into a career can come at a great cost. Even if we do what we enjoy for a living its important to remember to find happiness outside of that. Maybe then we can reconnect with the thing we once loved and learn to love it again. If we place all our value on work then workers are all well ever be. We are more than our jobs and our passions do not solely exist for the benefit of others. Growing up isnt easy and sometimes a lot of kindness and a bit of wisdom can be more valuable than gold. Perhaps these gentle reminders are Kikis Delivery Services greatest gifts.
