A man and his cat is about an elderly man named Kanda and his cat Fukumaru. Fukumaru is generally seen as a very ugly cat and despite it being cheaper than your usual cats no one buys him. This obviously makes Fukumaru really sad. However one day a man buys him as a pet and this tale is about their life together. I will talk about certain elements of the story from here on: Characters the characters are all very likable from the main character to his best friend and even the cat. There have been a few morally bad characters in flashbacks but they havent appeared properly so its not something bad. The characters are all very simple kind hearted and stay the same throughout the entirety of the series. I dont really think I can elaborate more due to how simple they are. Plot The plot is also very simple and wholesome. My main problem with the series is how repetitive it is. Apart from a few interesting flashbacks the entire series follows the same recurring theme. The cat gets sad remembering the past the cat sees his papa the main character and then it suddenly becomes happy. The idea was endearing at first but soon I got really bored of reading it. Occasionally you would see interactions with others but those arent interesting enough for me to keep reading thee story. The story does teach you a bit in regards to taking care for a pet and treating them well which is also nice. I especially enjoyed flashbacks that included the wife of the Main character. Otherwise the story is classic slice of life which can feel very boring as its too consistent. Art The art is nice. not too good nor too bad. I really like the designs of characters especially the cat and the main character. The main character looks extremely graceful and the cat looks cute and fun. I dont think I can elaborate more on the art of the series. Summary and Tips on reading this This story as I said is very wholesome but at the same time its not bingeable. I recommend reading 23 chapters per day skipping days in between or you will grow tired of it very soon. You can think of it as your daily or weekly dose of happiness and tranquility. I binged the first 20 chapters and it definitely was a bad idea. In any case you can use this series as something that makes your day a little better or maybe something after reading/watching something dark. My personal view on it is that its decent. I expected much more given the average ratings of the series which I feel are a little too high. Generally speaking I dont enjoy the slice of life genre especially if it stays consistent which is why I did not enjoy this as much as others. If you like the genre then this is a nice story too read. Also I love cats like the author so if you love cats thats a win.
