It really is important to showcase change to viewers. Still colors have an impact on peoples perception. If something changes from gloomy to bright and sunny you get the sense that everything could be better that everything will be okay. But its lacking in this anime. The animation quality dips from time to time in the series but I doubt the budget they had was big enough for the ambition the author had.
