If youre expecting this to be an outstanding dark fantasy detective story with a vampire theme you might be disappointed. However for anyone curious about dipping their toes into the dark fantasy genre MoMo The Blood Taker offers a good start and quite enjoyable. Goodthing: Briefly the plot itself is similar to Tokyo Ghoul but the characters and some of the settings are different making MoMo The Blood Taker quite enjoyable. 1. Especially in volumes 1 to 4 the protagonists willingness to risk his life to seek his revenge in a world where he shouldnt be and balancing himself to avoid turning into a monster like a vampire is apparent similar to Kaneki who didnt want to be a ghoul at first but with a more mature and stronger personality as a experience detective. 2. The two point of view between vampire life and human life also raises thoughtprovoking questions for readers such as: What if there were a special species that depended on human blood to survive? How would the societies of both sides coexist? similar to Tokyo Ghoul where ghouls have their own societies and management. Badthing: Its just that......after volume 4 until the final volume 9 its really disappointing. 1. Contrasting between vampire life and human life is still present with some dark humor such as human trafficking. Theres a bit of warmth and complexity in the relationships between humans and vampires both for the protagonist and other characters but it feels too rushed and focuses mostly on the vampire side. Theres still more to explore such as the stories of the detective such as protagonists coworker and his junior which could have been continued. 2. And because the story is really rushing the space trying to add some obstacle to see the protagonist and other character development becoming stronger is just too boring like the author has a lot of story to tell readers more but everything it needs to end now in volume 9. Summarize: MoMo The Blood Taker is quite similar to Tokyo Ghoul in terms of plot but with different characters and setting it is quite enjoyable. However its a shame that after volume 4 the story is very rushing wasting all of its potential. For anyone who would like to try reading dark fantasy this manga might be a good introduction to the genre but for those who normally read this kind of story you might get bored and drop it midway.
