Gorgeous drawings? Character with deep depth to them? Good fights? Good emotional beats? Even good romance perhaps? That is what you call art right? Now tell me what do you think of modern art? You know those bananas on a wall. Those brush strokes that surely even you can do? Those artists who are so consumed by meaning that they forget to make the art actually viewable. These art even if you can call them that are a scam right? They are an insult to our creativity. They are an insult to art in general. They shouldnt even exist right? His art and his depiction of it in this nihilism yet still somewhat hopeful world is very odd. Not that other mangakas havent done this before Fujimoto sure as hell didnt invent these concepts but everything about him is weird. Its a story about beliefs. Its a story about humanity. Its ironically not a story about how sasaki can stop bullets. Sasaki is lost he doesnt know what to do after his father has passed. He doesnt believe in himself until his teacher tells him that she is a god. Its outlandish and obviously a lie but that still feels him with hope. Hope and belief so powerful he catches a bullet by sheer chance. It was her who stopped the bullet. But that just enhances the story instead of taking away from it. As now its about his just because he thought he could do it if he believed he actually achieved it. Its a beautiful story and one of my favourite in the collection. Me telling it here isnt doing it enough justice. But its so weird for its time and even now so surely the chainsaw man author was congratulated for bringing his vision of weird world to life while telling a meaningful story. He was congratulated and went on to make chainsaw man which everyone loves. The end. It strays away from the traditional manga the dialogue was weird the art was weird the storytelling was confusing this is a disgrace this is cringeworthy this shouldnt exist this author doesnt know how to make manga he should just quit as manga is clearly not meant for him. Chainsaw man is one of the most successful stories of modern manga. Its the most popular manga of the modern decade that began its own weird new style. Chainsaw man is a weird series. But its a more normalized version of his previous works to appeal to a more mass audience. Which it did. So good on him as this weird thing from the past is seen as great art now. But it also comes with its downsides as the people who got into it for the shounen are weirded out by part 2. As its more raw. More experimental. More trying to push the genre forward than what it already is. This is what caused a massive debate when the asa and denji back alley scene happened. But since Fujimoto pushed this barrier and made this more normalized with the most popular shounen of the new generation. Its beloved. Which I am the most happy about. Acceptance of art is great and I am glad that we are moving towards a future where modern art is being more and more accepted. This is not me calling anyone stupid or dumb for disliking modern art. This is not me saying you just dont get it. This is me saying you shouldnt dismiss art because its new and foreign and doesnt follow tradition. Art is an evolving medium every art is valuable. So no those brush strokes arent cheap art. Those took years to perfect. Deep meaning based art is good the art should be looked at for meaning. The curtains werent just blue. That banana in the wall? Its a commentary on commodification of art. That art can be anything. Is this review the best thing ever? No. But I am glad I was able to write it. I was glad I was able to make it still. Go there make your art. Create weird shit. Create anything you want to.
