Overall a good show about a journey of selfdiscovery for protagonist Hanaoka Makoto who is a cross dressing femboy. Personally I have no special interest about LGBTQ except for yuri and honestly I might not have watched it I knew it was about femboy yet I was immediately interested after the first episode. In this love triangle situation the protagonist is a femboy with the other two love interests being natural boy and girl which is a very fresh spin because is Makoto gay or is he into girls? We dont know actually Makoto doesnt know either thats what the story is about. In addition theres the possibility that the two love interests could get together themselves right? I mean boy and girl hanging out together? Lets start with the presentation to be frank this is a low budget show there is A LOT of limited animation that means still frames background characters freezing in place instead of moving and the frequent changes to chibi style. However I believe the animation director did a great job with cutting the right corners because theyre able to keep the core elements very intact character faces are very consistent in shape style and animation for example there arent that many broken hands either. Most people would probably not realize how much less budget is involved in this compared to say your average Kyoto Animation stuff. Although Makoto is a femboy the overall story feel very much like a femaleoriented show to me because of things like... Protagonist has incredibly pretty face everyone falls for Multiple suitors secretly in love without the protagonist realizing Theres a gentle rich smart guy whos been secretly with the MC since forever because he is secretly in love the with the MC The story itself is mostly about balancing self interest with social expectations. For your most basic example everyone expects biological male MC to behave like a guy but he likes cute stuff and female clothing. Another example is love interest Aoi confesses with the MC at the beginning of the show but Makoto is worried since he is socially isolated himself being in relationship with Aoi will also alienate her from her friends. Most characters have problems like this and this is about various ways they deal with this conundrum. Both love interest support characters are very strong and I didnt know I would say this. Of course Aoi is great because shes a cute anime girl and possibly yuri. The male love interest Taiga Ryuuji is also great watching anime boys make out doesnt give me any physiological response but I was very emotionally invested in their relationship. Im sure I came across this show because Ive been watching josei shows like Chihayafuru and Fruit Basket while some of these shows dont peak my interest much others I found to be really great. Maybe I share some similarities with Makoto myself I like girly sparkle phone cases for example. However I believe cute things are cute beautiful things are beautiful and love is love. By that I mean people are often jailed behind their own prejudices of how things should be what they should and should not enjoy.
