SoL/iyashikei enjoyer with a soft spot for yuri and a penchant for trash.
I like keeping track of writing about the media I consume helps me organize my thoughts and makes for a fun pastime.
I rate based on enjoyment which is often influenced by how wellmade a series is. Wellmade can constitute production values story elements or harder to quantify feelings memorability emotional resonance personal attachment etc. which are usually represented through dividers or mentioned in notes. Note that the order of my dividers is irrespective of rating and mostly unrelated to my enjoyment of a series.
However there are different types or levels of enjoyment. E.g. something immensely emotional or thematically brilliant will likely provide longerlasting enjoyment and much higher peaks than simpler or less profound series even though my inthemoment entertainment may be similar for both.
My scale is divided into quarters e.g. 9.2 is technically 9.25 and 9.7 is 9.75. Im also a somewhat harsh critic and I make full use of the provided scale so a rating that looks low at first glance like a 6 or 6.5 is by no means bad: I at least somewhat enjoy anything above a 5 and anything above a 7 is considered well worth my time. Usually Ill clarify in my notes why I gave something a certain rating or sometimes Ill just comment on the show overall.
The vast majority of my reviews are safe to read for those unfamiliar with the respective series. Each review contains a warning at the top describing the level of spoilers so feel free to check any of them out if youre curious.
Watch for minor spoilers in notes
Scale:
Highly Suggested:
10 9.5: Personal treasures that are and will always remain near and dear to my heart. Profoundly special masterpieces that have provided everlasting enjoyment unparalleled attachment and/or lifechanging themes and messages.
9.25 8.75: Borderline masterpieces. Fantastically entertaining or meaningful works that house phenomenal themes and/or deliver wholly captivating and compelling narratives.
8.5 8: Exceptional watches that I hold in especially high esteem thanks to extraordinary levels of entertainment incredible storytelling and/or powerful messages.
7.75 7.25: Remarkably memorable or enjoyable series that provide a captivating fulfilling and allaround great watch experience.
Somewhat flawed or lacking in memorability or entertainment:
7 6.5: Very good watches with some cracks here and there but not enough to completely hinder my satisfaction and enjoyment.
6.25 5.75: Good series with flaws that negatively impact my enjoyment. Still worthwhile and solid overall but to a lesser extent than the above ratings.
5.5 4.5: Distinctly lacking in entertainment or fulfillment. Inspires ambivalent feelings dont quite regret watching but doubt Id care if I hadnt watched.
Personally dislike and/or of a low quality:
4.25 3.5: Below average either because its not to my tastes or due to a multitude of significant flaws.
3.25 2.5: Noticeably bad of an exceptionally poor quality that moves beyond mere dislike.
2.25 1.5: Aggravatingly bad completely deplorable content writing and/or execution capable of ruining a great day.
1.25 0.1: This should not exist. Period. Makes the world just a little bit worse.
Dividers:
Immense Personal Impact: Unmatched attachment with themes or messages I find myself returning to and trying to incorporate into my personal life. Usually accompanied by extreme emotional and thematic resonance.
Profoundly Moving: Didnt impact me personally on the extraordinary level of the tier above but evoked extreme emotions from within me likely because of touching content and/or significant thematic resonance. Basically anything that made me cry or left a deep emotional impact on me.
Thematic Resonance: Contains themes or messages that deeply influenced and lingered within me usually because theyre exceptionally executed distinctively unique and/or personally resounding.
Surprisingly Decent: Watched/Read and came out pleasantly surprised. Usually for seasonals that surpass my expectations but can be anything that is surprisingly actually good.
Good Trash: Trash that no matter the score is fun. Trashy series whether that be generic power fantasies basic romcoms bland isekai overthetop harems or anything with tasteless fan service that are enjoyable watches.
Bad Trash: Trash that no matter the score is trash. Trashy series that are bad but in an unsatisfying unpleasant way.
Problematic: Couldve been a lot better but is... problematic in some way. Doesnt mean I didnt enjoy it as my ratings signify enjoyment but I have one or more problems that hindered my enjoyment from what it couldve been.
Goated Writeups: When inspiration took the helm and commanded me to pour my heart and soul onto the page resulting in the eloquent bestowal of facts into the flimsy confines of an AniList note.
Indefinitely Paused: Not quite paused but also not quite dropped. Usually for series I like but am not fully committed to sinking in the time to watch/read which I may or may not get back to note that this implies Paused is anything I will definitely get back to either because Im taking a break not in the mood to watch/read it currently or waiting for more content to binge all at once.
Need To Rewatch/Read: Something that I feel the need to reevaluate either because of dense or confusing subject matter the considerable time since I last watched/read or gradually shifting opinions. Sometimes also because the series was so incredible that I felt the desire to immediately rewatch/read it or I just forgot what happens lol.
