Ryan Swansons Rules for Anime Favoritism If an anime that Im interested in is to be considered a favorite of mine it must follow the following rules in order to be one. These include all episodes of the viewed season and all extra content and original video animes that follow them. Only I Ryan Swanson am allowed to change and alter rules as my tastes in various subjects change in my lifetime. 1. No swimsuit episodes This was the most annoying for me. It feels like I cant go to any anime without seeing the characters don swimwear and hit the beach or pool. However there are a few exceptions: One the entire main setting of the anime takes place where characters main or background wear swimwear all the time. Two the moment we see characters in swimwear takes up a minute or less of the episode rather than the whole thing. Three if its a sequel season the sequel season alone gets a pass if it doesnt include one regardless if the previous season had one and I didnt enjoy that particular season. Four the episode doesnt do the typical beach episode stuff show off swimwear suntan smash a watermelon etc. Finally the anime went beyond 1 season. After that this rule is null and void At that point youre bound to have a beach episode eventually no matter what media you consume. 2. There is to be no scene where every single main character is crying suffering or acting like a total idiot at the same time. This kind of stuff is fine with me as long as its done by one or two characters and not every single character at the same time. 3. Fanservice must be minimal or have a purpose this does NOT mean it should be eliminated. I will only allow fanservice in the following scenarios: One its doesnt appear as frequently as around once per episode. Two its actually crucial to the plot. Third certain human body parts that may be offensive are appropriately covered and not given impure thoughts in my mind. Lastly If its public bathing onsens or hot springs for example since its part of Japanese culture and as an American and an anime fan I have to respect that. 4. No episodes where the entire main cast is outsmarted by a side character. 5. If the characters are best friends they must not be angry and fight with each other either with words or violence. ESPECIALLY if it involves a crush The exception is if one is angry at the other but the other doesnt get angry and yell back. 6. A new character must not have similar or worse character quirks than the main protagonist. Say the main character of an anime has a brain disorder that they spend the whole show coping with. But then we are introduced to a new character that has the same disorder as the main character or a worse version of it that would either outshine the main character or have said main character help THAT one out. Im sorry but I dont find that a good way show the character development and in my opinion makes the main character feel less special. 7. A character must not change suddenly in a way that does not reflect proper character development. Say theres a character whos really nice and willing to share say freshly baked cookies with her friends. Then next episode that same character is shown stealing a boys lollipop and slamming his head on the pavement with no else around asking why theyre acting this way. This kind of behavior shift I will not tolerate. 8. All characters that appear in the shows opening must all be accounted for by the secondtolast episode of its season. There are two exceptions to this rule. First the show is the kind that introduces a new character or two every single episode throughout its run. Second there was new season announced soon after the character is introduced. 9. Romance should not be a dominant plot or character purpose. If I wanted a load of characters wanting nothing than to please a lover I would have stayed at Nickelodeon and Disney Channel with their liveaction kidcoms.
